About
My work is about showing the beauty and the struggle of everyday urban life. I wander the streets and take in what others shut out: old factories, abandoned train trestles, construction workers, guys living under a bridge. I tune into the music of the city, the beauty and the grittiness of my surroundings and emotions, and recreate them in the visual rhythms of my paintings. My technique and materials mirror my experience of these scenes: I paint in thick oil on found wooden boards, at times incorporating other media as I see fit, including coffee, newspaper and galkyd for a resin effect. I don't want to be perfect. I enjoy the final effect of the mistakes in my subject matter and my work. This process is my meditation, my way of finding truth in the midst of the chaos.
